Lotus Foods 2024 Annual Impact Report: A Year of Sustainability and Positive Change
Lotus Foods, a trailblazer in sustainable rice production, has released its 2024 Annual Impact Report, highlighting remarkable progress in regenerative agriculture, environmental conservation, and community support. As the company nears its 30th anniversary, its commitment to climate-friendly rice farming and social responsibility remains stronger than ever.
Advancing Regenerative Agriculture
At the core of Lotus Foods’ mission is the System of Rice Intensification (SRI), also known as More Crop Per Drop®. This method reduces water usage, improves soil health, and cuts methane emissions. In 2024, a significant milestone was achieved—Lotus Foods' White and Brown Organic Basmati Rice earned Regenerative Organic Certified® (ROC™) Gold status, the highest standard for soil health, animal welfare, and social fairness. This recognition reinforces the brand’s commitment to ethical and sustainable farming practices.
Environmental Impact: A Decade of Progress
Since 2009, Lotus Foods has made significant strides in reducing its environmental footprint:
-
7.8 billion gallons of water saved through SRI farming techniques.
-
73,000 tons of CO2 emissions reduced, contributing to global climate action.
-
40% decrease in methane emissions, a critical step in fighting climate change.
These achievements underscore the company's dedication to promoting a more sustainable food system that benefits both the planet and people.
Empowering Farming Communities
Lotus Foods’ impact extends beyond environmental sustainability—it also supports thousands of smallholder farmers worldwide:
-
Over 5,000 farming families have benefited from Organic and Fair Trade premiums, ensuring fair wages and better working conditions.
-
Community investments from Fair Trade premiums have funded healthcare, education, and infrastructure improvements in farming regions.
By prioritizing economic justice, Lotus Foods is helping to create resilient and self-sufficient communities.
